Bread Upma is an easy, yummy snack that can be made in a jiffy. Though this recipe does not appear in my kitchen often, when I have left over bread, the first thing that comes to my mind is bread upma. Rather than toasts or sandwich I prefer this as it is a typical Indian style dish. U can serve this as breakfast or snack.
Now to the recipe…
[Preparation Time-10 mins : Cooking Time- 20 mins]
Ingredients:
- Bread – 6 to 8 slices
- Butter/Oil – 1 tbsp
- Cumin/Jeera – 1 tsp
- Onion – 2
- Tomato – 1
- Green Chillies – 2
- Ginger garlic paste – 1 tsp
- Tomato Sauce – 1 tbsp (optional)
- Chilli powder – 3/4 tsp
- Salt – as needed
- Turmeric powder – a pinch
- Coriander leaves – to garnish
Method:
- Cut the bread slices into bite size squares. Chop onion & tomato and keep it ready. Heat a pan with butter/oil and temper with cumin seeds. Once it splutters add finely chopped onions and slit green chillies. Saute until transparent. Add ginger garlic paste and saute until the raw smell goes off.
- Add chopped tomatoes and saute until soft.Add required salt, chilli powder and turmeric powder and saute until the tomatoes turn mushy and oil oozes out. Now add tomato sauce and mix.
- Add the bread squares and mix well so that the masala coats every bread piece. Let it toast in medium flame for a few mins. Garnish with finely chopped coriander leaves and switch off the flame.
Thats it!!
Simple and yummy Bread Upma is ready. Serve hot!!
Tips:
- U can add any vegetables of your choice like potato, carrot, corn, mushroom, paneer etc…
- U can use any bread of your choice.
- U can skip the tomato sauce and squeeze half a lemon finally before serving.
