Sakkarai Pongal / Sweet Pongal is an authentic sweet recipe that is made for different festivals to offer as prasadham. As it is Aadi month thought of posting this easy Sakkarai Pongal recipe. Traditionally it is made in a pot for Pongal festival, but here I have used the pressure cooker method for convenience. The best combo for Sakkarai Pongal is Medhu Vadai. Lemon Rice is a very common and popular South Indian rice variety. It is an easy and quick lunch box recipe. All u need is rice, lemon juice and tempering. I pretty much told the recipe here. Actually this is not a fancy recipe to be published here, but there are many beginners/bachelors who really need this. My favourite among these rice varieties is Puliyotharai especially with home made Pulikaichal. This Lemon Rice is good to go as is or divine with any potato sabji & papad/crisps.

Varagu Sakkarai Pongal – Millet Sweet Pongal

January 7, 2017 Navaratri SpecialPongal Recipes  7 comments

I have always wanted to try millet sakkarai pongal. The procedure to make this Varagu Sakkarai Pongal is very similar to the normal Sakkarai Pongal made with rice. This is perfect to make for Pongal festival. Actually to be honest, we did not find any difference in the taste, in the sense it tasted as good as the normal Sakkarai Pongal. When there is no compromise in taste, why not choose a much healthier option?!?  Do check my Aval Sakkarai Pongal as well.. Varagu is known as Kodo Millet in english.

Ven Pongal is always a favourite at home. It is a very easy to make comfort breakfast food. It is truly divine when served hot with a dollop of ghee. Ven Pongal, Vadai, Sambar & Coconut Chutney.. Gosh!! It is an unbeatable South Indian combo!!  We love both the tiffin sambars with this pongal. I usually do the tempering in the beginning itself, so that the work would be done in one shot. U can temper finally too. Post updated with video 🙂

Vadai is a popular South Indian snack. This Keerai Vadai is a perfect tea time snack. Its crispy outside and soft inside. Usually in the local tea shops they make it as masal vadai/paruppu vadai (with chana dal). I prefer it with urad dal as Chotu likes the Medhu Vadai best!! So I am more than happy to make this as I can add some spinach leaves to it  Its the best snack to have on a cold/rainy day over a cup of coffee or tea.
