Chilli Parotta is a popular fast food/street food in TamilNadu. I would say the road side shops serve tastier Chilli Parotta than the restaurants. They call it Kothu Parotta. It is a mix of bite sized pieces of parotta along with onion, capsicum & sauces. It is very easy to make at home if u have frozen parottas in hand. U can add or have some Veg Kurma along with it too.
Now to the recipe..
[Preparation Time-10 mins : Cooking Time- 20 mins]
Chilli Parotta Ingredients:
- Frozen Parotta – 4
- Oil – 2 tbsp
- Mustard- 1 tsp
- Fennel Seeds – 1 tbsp
- Onion – 1 big
- Capsicum – 1 medium
- Green chillies – 2 nos
- Ginger/Garlic paste – 1 tsp
- Chilli powder – 1 tsp
- Garam masala – 1/2 tsp
- Pepper powder – 1/4 tsp
- Salt – as needed
- Tomato Sauce/Ketchup – 2 tbsp
- Spring onions – 4 to 5 (Optional)
Method:
- Heat a tawa and cook the parottas until golden brown. Cool and cut it into bite size square pieces. Keep this aside.
- Heat a pan with oil and temper with mustard. Once the mustard seeds pop , add fennel seeds and saute for a few seconds. Add roughly chopped onions and slit green chillies and saute. Onions have to be crunchy yet cooked.
- Add cubed capsicum pieces and saute for a few mins. Add chilli powder, salt, garam masala & tomato sauce and mix until all the ingredients combine well.
- Add the squared parotta pieces and mix well so that the parotta pieces gets nicely coated with the masala. Finally add pepper powder & chopped spring onions and switch off the flame. Mix well.
Chilli Parotta is ready.
Serve piping hot with onion raita.
Tips:
- U can add lemon juice before serving for a tangy flavour.
- Adjust spice levels according to your taste buds. I have used green chillies, chilli powder & pepper powder. U can skip any one of them. But a mix of all these gives a unique flavour.
- U can add tomatoes instead of tomato sauce.
- If u like to have egg parotta, u can beat eggs & add it in step 3, and cook until the eggs get scrambled. Then follow the rest of the procedure.
- U can deep fry the parottas too. But am sure nobody wants to do that!!
