How to make Homemade Ghee – Ghee Recipe

June 1, 2021 Basics  No comments

How to make Homemade Ghee? Its very simple, healthy and much flavourful than the store bought ghee. I am using store bought butter though. You can make it from scratch too. Ghee is a traditional item in Indian cooking. To me, food without ghee is incomplete. I love to smear it on phulkas, parathas, rice with rasam, sambar, dosa with podi and most favourite of all are sweets. I always use unsalted butter to make ghee. Back in India amma adds Drumstick leaves finally to make it even more flavourful. I have added the same. 🙂

Tea is a most common beverage in any Indian household. I love Masala Chai, especially the flavour and the mild spiciness in it. Always used to wonder what ingredients went into the making. This Masala Tea Powder is such a simple and handy powder which adds a magical aroma and flavour to the normal tea, and with the ingredients that are normally available in the kitchen. Saw this Masala Tea Powder in Tarla Dalal’s show and was really excited to try it. I just skipped the nut meg powder that was added in the original recipe.

Sathu Maavu | Homemade Health Mix(With grains/flours)

December 3, 2020 BasicsKids Bay  No comments

Sathu Maavu is a must at home. While we start the day with this Masala Chai, Chotu loves to start his day with this Sathu Mavu porridge. Usually we get the powder from Indian stores or get it from India. I did not dare to make it at home as we do not have the rice mills here which is easily accessible way back home. But gave it a try with a combination of whole grains(that can be ground in the mixie) and flours. The choice of grains and flours is upto you. I have added whatever is suitable for us. Tasted much more aromatic and flavourful than the store bought ones. Do check out the video..

How to make Moong Sprouts – Green Gram Sprouts

January 24, 2017 BasicsSnacks / Starters  2 comments

Making Moong Sprouts at home was a long time due post. My mom includes Moong Sprouts in her cooking quite often. When I thought of trying some dishes with it, I could not find it here. I am sure we get it in Chennai – especially in any Pazhamudhir store. The only dis-advantage in using the store bought sprouts is the use of unclean water in making it. Having said that, HOMEMADE is always the best right?!? As a result, I made it at home. It is a very easy & straight forward process. U just have to plan ahead as it will take a couple of days to sprout. Sprouts Salad recipe coming next.. HERE .
