Jeera Rice or Jeera Pulao is a flavourful & delicious rice variety. Honestly, this is no big deal a recipe to blog… But a friend of mine wanted me to post this. So this is especially for my friend “S” 🙂
Now to the recipe.
Jeera Rice Ingredients:
- Basmati Rice – 2 cups
- Jeera/Cumin seeds – 1 tbsp
- Onion – 1 large (Optional)
- Whole Garam Masala – A few of your choice (Optional – See tips)
- Salt – as needed
- Ghee or oil – 2 tbsp
- Water – 3 cups
Method:
- Take Basmati Rice in a pressure cooker. Add whole garam masala, salt & required water and cook. (I normally cook in high flame for 1 whistle and simmer it for 5 mins & switch it off)
- Take oil in a pan and saute the sliced onions until they are caramelized. They should be similar to deep fried onions. Keep this aside.
- In the same pan, add ghee and temper with cumin seeds for a few seconds. Take care not to burn them. Add this to the cooked rice.
Mix well and check for salt.
That’s it!! Jeera Rice / Pulao is ready. I served it with Aloo Methi (Recipe HERE).
Tips:
- Adding onions and whole garam masala is purely optional. I added cloves & star anise while cooking rice. I prefer a very mild flavour so discarded them after rice was cooked.
- You can add green chillies while cooking rice for a spicy flavour.
