M&M or Smarties are always kids favourites. Its my favourite too. They are totally addictive. I wanted to post a kids recipe for Children’s Day and here you go with M&M Cookies/Smarties Cookies. These are super easy to make and are a definite treat to kids as well as adults. These are soft, chewy and crunchy cookies. U can use M&M’s or smarties, whichever u prefer..

I had bookmarked this recipe from laurainthekitchen.com long time before. I have made very few changes to the original recipe to suit our taste buds.

Now to the recipe…

[Preparation Time – 20 mins : Baking Time- 15 to 20 mins] Makes around 20 cookies

  • Maida/All purpose flour – 2 1/4 cups
  • Baking Soda – 1 tsp
  • Salt – 1/2 tsp
  • Butter – 3/4 cup
  • Curd/Yogurt – 1/2 cup
  • Sugar – 3/4 cup
  • Brown Sugar – 3/4 cup
  • M&M / Smarties – 1 cup

  • Take a wide bowl and cream together butter and both the sugars. Whisk it until it is soft and fluffy. Now add yogurt to it and mix so that it combines well. It might look curdled, but that’s ok. Dont panic.

  • Mix all purpose flour, salt & baking soda in another bowl. Add this to the above mixture. Just mix to combine. Do not over work the dough.  Now to this add M&M’s or Smarties and mix to combine. Line a baking tray with parchment paper. Place a small amount of the dough on the tray leaving space in between each one. I used my small ice cream scoop to get uniform size of cookies.

  • Slightly flatten the cookie dough by pressing them lightly. Meanwhile pre-heat oven to 180 deg C for 10 mins. Bake the M&M Cookies for 12-17 mins, rotate the tray in between. The cookies are done when they are golden brown around the edges.Keep an eye after 10 mins. Cool completely on a wire rack and store it in an air tight container.

M&M Cookies / Smarties Cookies are ready.

Treat your kids on any special occasion/birthday parties.

  1. If you want to use eggs, u can skip yogurt and use 2 eggs instead of it.
  2. The dough will be little sticky. If u feel if its very loose, refrigerate for 30 mins before baking it.
  3. U can skip brown sugar and use normal sugar for the full quantity of sugar as mentioned above. But I would highly recommend using brown sugar as it gives a nice flavour and texture to the M&M Cookies.
  4. The cookies will spread, so leave atleast 2 inches of space in between each one.
  5. If u do not have an ice cream scoop, use a normal spoon or ladle. Just make sure they are of the same size so that they bake evenly.
  6. Instead of mixing the M&M’s into the dough, u can first place the dough on the baking sheet and then decorate with M&M’s on top of each and then bake them.
  7. U can use as much or less of M&M’s to make the cookies.
