Mini Idli Sambar is a marvelous combo. It is popularly known as Ghee Idli Sambar/14 Idli Sambar. This Mini Idli Sambar was in my to do list since a very long time. Chotu who does not like idli, is happy to eat these cute little mini idlis though and of course dosa is an all time favourite. Sure this is a kids friendly recipe. It tastes totally divine when drizzled with ghee while serving.

I have described in detail the procedure to make mini idlis and have used my Tiffin Sambar with toor dal to make these Mini Idli Sambar. I made my Tiffin Sambar first and then proceeded with the mini idlis.

Now to the recipe..

[Preparation Time-20 mins : Cooking Time- 20 mins]

Ingredients:

  • Idli/Dosa Batter – 1 cup
  • Tiffin Sambar – as needed
  • Onion – 1 (finely chopped)
  • Ghee – to drizzle
  • Coriander Leaves – few (finely chopped)

Method:

  • Keep your idli/dosa batter ready. Grease the mini idli plates with little bit of oil. Use a small ladle and pour the batter in each hole.

  • Arrange the idli plates on top of each other carefully so that the batter does not stick to the bottom part of the stacked idli plate. Just like in the 1st pic. Steam it in an idli pot for 8-10 mins. Once cooked leave it outside for a few mins.

  • Sprinkle some water at the bottom of each mould (reverse the idli plate and sprinkle some water). This will help in taking the mini idlis from the mould easily without sticking. Meanwhile heat the tiffin sambar and keep it ready. Take a serving bowl and arrange the mini idlis. Pour a ladle full of sambar, enough to cover the idlis. Arrange another row of mini idlis and add more sambar.

Tips:

  1. Make sure the Tiffin Sambar is not very spicy/salty, it should be drinkable on its own.
  2. Use sambar generously to soak the mini idlis. Only then the Mini Idli Sambar will taste good.
  3. Sambar should be neither be very runny nor thick, just in between.
  4. Once u get the plate ready, serve immediately.
  5. The finely chopped raw onions and coriander leaves and especially the ghee take the Mini Idli Sambar to the next level. So do not skip it.
