Oats Uthappam – Instant Oats Uttappam
March 4, 2014 Breakfast/Dinner, Oats Recipes
-
Dosa / Uthappam is a common breakfast/dinner item in any South Indian household. I love to include oats in our diet as it is a very good source of fiber & iron. I came across this Oats Uthappam recipe in a cook-book and wanted to try this immediately. If you are bored with oats porridge or the normal dosa’s then this is the best option.
Now to the recipe…
[Preparation Time-20 mins : Soaking Time – 2 hrs : Fermenting time – 4to 5 hrs : Cooking Time- 5 mins]
Oats Uthappam Ingredients:
- Idli Rice – 1 cup
- Raw Rice – 1/4 cup
- Oats – 1 cup
- Coconut (grated) – 1/2 cup
- Fenugreek – 1 tbsp
- Salt – as needed
- Oil – to drizzle
Method:
- Soak both the rice, fenugreek seeds in a bowl & oats in a separate bowl. Once soaked grind rice along with grated coconut until almost 3/4 th done. Then add the soaked oats and grind it to a smooth batter. Add required salt and leave it to ferment.
- The batter should be in the same consistency of a normal dosa batter. Heat a tawa and pour a laddle full of batter and spread a little. It should be in the same thickness of a normal uthappam. Drizzle some oil and cook in medium flame and flip to the other side. Once cooked remove it from the tawa & repeat the process for more Oats Uthappams.
Soft & fluffy Oats Uthappam is ready. The combined flavours of oats & coconut was real MAGIC!!!
Serve hot with any chutney and/or sambar.
Tips:
- U can add finely chopped onions for an onion oats uthappam.
- U can add grated carrots too.
- Oats Uthappam will be very soft, so handle it carefully while flipping it.
