Lauki Chana Dal is nothing but bottle gourd (sorakkai) cooked along with chana dal in a onion-tomato based gravy. Its a very simple and healthy gravy. Bottle gourd has a lot of health benefits, especially for lactating mothers. This gravy is quite a different way to use bottle gourd, rather than making the usual kootu. As u know I am always in the look for side dishes to go with roti/phulka, this is a perfect and complete meal altogether with roti.

Rajma Masala is an authentic Punjabi dish made with red kidney beans, cooked in onion-tomato gravy along with spices. This comes to my rescue when I run out of veggies. Moreover its Chotu’s favourite, so always happy to make this. It goes well with roti, naan, paratha & rice. I personally like to have it even with dosa or bread 🙂

Phulka or roti or chapathi however it is called is an Indian flat bread made with wheat flour. I make phulkas almost daily during weekdays. It is actually not a difficult task to make. As winter has started we definitely need some soups or snacks recipes to cope with the weather. This Cheese Rice Balls is a damn easy and tempting recipe made with left over rice, good amount of veggies and cheese. This was a super hit at home. Am sure it will not only impress the kids but the adults too. However carefully I cook, I will be left with some rice. So this is a perfect way to use it up. Agree?!? Recipe with video 🙂

Beetroot Fry is a simple yet yummy stir fry which I make quite often. I am always in the look of some sabji to pair with roti and dal, which is our usual lunch menu during week days. This Beetroot Fry has a simple twist which makes it suitable for both roti as well as rice. Though am not a big fan of beetroot, Chotu and hubby love it. U can either grate the beetroot or chop it finely like I have done. I personally dont prefer the grating part, Lazy me!!

Bajji is a totally addictive snack, especially in a cold/rainy weather. U can use quite a few veggies in making Bajji. I have showed how to make Vazhakkai Bajji and Potato Bajji in this post. The other veggies that u can use are onion, brinjal and Bajji Milagai (chillies specially for making Bajji). My personal favourite is with potato. 🙂 Though u do not need any special ocassion to make these deep fried goodies, we usually make it on Diwali too.
