Onion Pakoda is an awesome & easy Indian snack. Its perfect to munch over a cup of coffee or tea. It does not ask for any special ingredients, just simple ones – all of which will definitely be available in the pantry. It can be made in just  15 mins.. What more do u need!?! Onion Pakoda My Magic Pan

 

[Preparation Time-5 mins : Cooking Time- 15 mins]

Onion Pakoda Ingredients:

  • Onion – 3
  • Oil – to deep fry + 2 tbsp (see method)
  • Besan/chickpea flour – 1 cup
  • Rice Flour – 1/4 cup
  • Salt – as needed
  • Chilli powder – 1/2 tsp
  • Asafoetida – a generous pinch
  • Curry Leaves – a sprig

Method:

  • Take a pan with oil enough to deep fry and heat it in simmer. Meanwhile slice the onions. Take a wide bowl and add the sliced onions, besan flour, rice flour, salt, chilli powder, asafoetida, curry leaves and 2 tbsps of hot oil. Mix well.

  • Make sure the oil is hot enough to deep fry. Drop the onion pakoda mixture in a sprinkled format. Keep the flame in medium and deep fry until golden brown. Drain it in paper towels.

Tadaaaaaa!!! Onion Pakoda is ready!!

Munch it with a cuppa coffee or tea!!

Tips:

  1. Do not add water to the onion pakoda mixture, water from the onions, salt & oil is enough to bring the mixture together.
  2. Adding hot oil gives a crispy texture to the onion pakoda.
  3. U can add finely chopped green chillies instead of chilli powder.
  4. Make sure to keep the flame in medium flame while deep frying, else the onions will burn and will not taste good.
  5. U can add fennel seeds to the mixture for an extra flavour.
