Now to the recipe…
[Preparation Time-5 mins : Cooking Time- 15 mins]
Onion Pakoda Ingredients:
- Onion – 3
- Oil – to deep fry + 2 tbsp (see method)
- Besan/chickpea flour – 1 cup
- Rice Flour – 1/4 cup
- Salt – as needed
- Chilli powder – 1/2 tsp
- Asafoetida – a generous pinch
- Curry Leaves – a sprig
Method:
- Take a pan with oil enough to deep fry and heat it in simmer. Meanwhile slice the onions. Take a wide bowl and add the sliced onions, besan flour, rice flour, salt, chilli powder, asafoetida, curry leaves and 2 tbsps of hot oil. Mix well.
- Make sure the oil is hot enough to deep fry. Drop the onion pakoda mixture in a sprinkled format. Keep the flame in medium and deep fry until golden brown. Drain it in paper towels.
Tadaaaaaa!!! Onion Pakoda is ready!!
Munch it with a cuppa coffee or tea!!
Tips:
- Do not add water to the onion pakoda mixture, water from the onions, salt & oil is enough to bring the mixture together.
- Adding hot oil gives a crispy texture to the onion pakoda.
- U can add finely chopped green chillies instead of chilli powder.
- Make sure to keep the flame in medium flame while deep frying, else the onions will burn and will not taste good.
- U can add fennel seeds to the mixture for an extra flavour.
