Apple Halwa – Yes! This was in my to do list since a long time. But did not get a chance to make it. Last week had a pooja at home. Was left over with a lot of apples. Was really wondering what to make and suddenly remembered this. So made this super-yummy Apple Halwa. Alright! A few tips to select apples for this halwa. Make sure the apples are juicy and sweet. Green Apples would definitely not work for this halwa. If at all u end up buying some sour/tart apples, try this Apple Thokku then 🙂 Hehe U have an option to pick between sweet or spicy!

Method:

  • Take the apples and wash it. Peel it, de-seed it and grate it. It will change colour when exposed. This is totally normal.

  • Heat a pan with ghee and add the grated apples. Mix well and cook covered for about 10 mins. It will become soft and mushy.

  • Add sugar to it and mix well. It will become watery first and then thicken. Add cardamom powder & broken nuts. Mix well, it will start leaving the sides of the pan. This is the right stage. Switch off.

Tips:

  1. Choose sweet & juicy apples. Sour, tart or green apples will not work for this halwa.
  2. Adjust sugar according to the sweetness of the apples u use. Mine were really very sweet, so just added 2 tbsps.
  3. U can also skip sugar if u dont want and make it just with the sweetness of apples.
  4. U can add cinnamon powder instead of cardamom powder.
  5. Adding food colour is an option. I have not used though.
