-
Cup Corn is a popular snack recipe. In India you can see this steaming corn stalls in malls, theatres, super markets & even in front of vegetable shops. The aroma from it would be very tempting. I have shared 2 flavours here – the classic Butter Corn & Masala Corn. Chotu and my mom are big fans for this recipe. Chotu loves this Sweet Corn Gravy too. I prefer using frozen corn as it is super-duper easy. U can use fresh corn too. Check out the cooking tips below and the quick video.
Here is the video..
Now to the recipe..[Preparation Time-5 mins : Cooking Time- 3 mins *Check Tips]
Cup Corn Ingredients:
- Frozen Sweet Corn Kernels – 1 cup
- Water – 2 cups
Cooking Method:
- Heat a pan with water. Add the sweet corn kernels to it and boil it for 2-3 mins.
- Press to check if its soft. Strain the water using a strainer. Sweet corn is now ready to add flavours 🙂
Tips:
- I have used frozen corn which gets cooked very quickly.
- If you are using fresh corn which is separated from the cob, u can boil it for 7-10 mins.
- If u are using corn cob as a whole, pressure cook it for 4-5 whisltes and then separate it from the cob.
- Do not add salt while boiling the corn. It makes the corn harder.
Butter Cup Corn Ingredients:
- Boiled Corn – 1/2 cup
- Salt – 1/4 tsp
- Crushed Pepper – 1/4 tsp
- Butter – 1 tsp
Method:
- Take 1/2 cup of the above boiled sweet corn. Add salt & freshly crushed pepper
- Add a tsp of softened butter to it. Mix so that all the flavours combine well.
Thats it. The classic Butter Corn flavour is ready!
Serve hot. U can microwave it for 30 seconds too.
Masala Corn Ingredients:
- Boiled sweet corn – 1/2 cup
- Salt – 1/4 tsp
- Paprika/Chilli powder – 1/4 tsp
- Chaat masala – 1/4 tsp
- Butter – 1 tsp
Method:
- Take the remaining boiled sweet corn. Add salt & butter.
- Add paprika powder & chaat masala. Mix to combine the flavours well.
Thats it! Masala Cup Corn ready!
Serve hot.
Tips:
- Sweet corn does not consume a lot of seasoning. Add very little of salt, pepper or paprika. Check for taste and then add accordingly if needed.
- Other seasonings that can be used are jeera powder, oregano, a dash of lemon juice.. The list goes on. Just explore the flavours that suit you.
- Serve immediately or you can have the corn boiled/cooked ready and add the flavourings just before serving.
