Biryani is always a breeze to make. We love one pot meals, especially during travel or for those busy days. This Baby Potato Biryani is a flavourful biryani with baby potatoes. I saw this recipe in a cook book and made a few changes to suit our taste buds. This is yet another biryani made easily in a pressure cooker. All u need to do is marinate the baby potatoes and then the rest of the procedure can be done quickly. Baby potatoes are always a favourite and will be in my shopping list! I simply love the cuteness of the tiny potatoes.
Now to the recipe..
[Preparation Time-20 mins : Cooking Time- 30 mins]
Ingredients:
- Basmati Rice – 2 cups
- Water – 3 cups
- Baby Potato – 15 to 20
- Onion – 3 (sliced)
- Tomato – 1
- Salt – as needed
- Oil – 3 tbsp
To grind into a paste:
- Garlic – 5 to 6 cloves
- Ginger – 1 inch piece
- Mint leaves – handful
- Coriander leaves – handful
- Green chilli – 1
- Chilli powder – 1/2 tsp
- Biryani Powder – 1 tsp
- Curd – 1 tbsp
Method:
- Take all the ingredients mentioned under “to grind” except curd and make a paste. Finally add curd and grind again into a smooth paste.
- Meanwhile wash and pressure cook the baby potatoes for 1 whistle. Let it cool and peel the skin. Prick each potato with a fork. Add the above paste + little salt to it and let it marinate for 20 mins or more. Heat a pressure cooker with oil and add sliced onions. Saute until it turns transparent.
- Add chopped tomato and saute until tomatoes turn mushy. Add the marinated potatoes and saute in low-medium flame until the raw smell goes off and oil oozes out.
- Add basmati rice along with water and salt. Add salt carefully as we have already added salt to the baby potatoes. Pressure cook for 1 whistle and simmer for 5 to 7 mins. Switch off the flame. Once the pressure releases, fluff it up with a fork.
Thats it!! Flavourful Baby Potato Biryani is ready!!
Serve hot with onion raita.
Tips:
- Make sure to prick the baby potatoes so that it absorbs the marinate. Else they will be tasteless.
- The more time it marinates, the more the taste.
- U can use normal potatoes too. Just cube them and continue with the rest of the process.
