March 14, 2016 Biryani/Pulao, Green Peas, Rice Varieties
-
Peas Pulao is a mild and easy one pot meal. It is a flavourful pulao variety made with sweet and succulent peas. Goes well with any gravy or a even a simple raita and pickle. It is a perfect lunch box recipe or even for picnics. I recently made this for a get together at home. With simple ingredients, this Peas Pulao can be made in a jiffy.
Now to the recipe…
[Preparation Time-10 mins : Cooking Time- 25 mins]
Ingredients :
- Basmati Rice – 1 cup
- Water – 1 and 1/2 cups
- Peas – 3/4 th cup (fresh or frozen)
- Onion – 2
- Oil – 3 tbsp
- Salt – as needed
- Jeera/Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
- Clove – 3
- Bay leaf – 1
To grind into a paste:
- Coriander leaves – handful
- Green Chillies – 2
- Ginger – 1 inch pc
- Garlic – 4 cloves
Method:
- Heat a pressure cooker with oil and temper with jeera, cloves and bay leaf. Add sliced onions and saute until it turns brown.
- Add peas to the browned onions and saute. Take all the ingredients mentioned under “to grind into a paste” and grind into a smooth paste. Add this paste and saute until the raw smell goes off.
- Add the washed rice, required salt and water. Pressure cook for 1 whistle and simmer for 5-7 mins. Switch off the flame. Once the pressure releases, fluff it up with a fork and serve.
Thats it!! Peas Pulao is ready!!
Serve hot with raita or any gravy!
Tips:
- U can use frozen or fresh peas. I have used frozen peas. Make sure to use good quality peas.
- The ratio between rice and water is 1:1.5 cups. Do not add more water. Else the Peas Pulao will turn mushy.
- Grinding corainder leaves along with green chillies, ginger and garlic gives a very nice aroma and flavour to the Peas Pulao.
Simple and tasty pulav!
