Biryani Meal – Ennai Kathirikkai – Lunch Menu 7

February 23, 2019 Biryani/PulaoLunch Menu Series  No comments

This lunch menu is a Biryani Meal along with a gravy. Made this on a weekend. On the plate is Veg Biryani, Ennai Kathirikkai, Onion Raita(my hubby’s style) & Potato chips (store bought). We love to switch to this menu in between the boring kuzhambu, rasam & poriyal meals. Usually biryani would be paired with just the onion raita. This time paired it with Ennai Kathirikkai, my all time favourite combo.

Coming to the onion raita, I prefer it to be with more curd where onions would be literally hidden.. My hubby prefers it as in the pic, not much curd, just like as if the onions are dipped and served. Typical restaurant style. So made him make it to show off in the pic. Heheheeee

Quick Tips:

  1. Firstly chop the veggies for the biryani. The time consuming process in the biryani is the cooking of onion-tomato masala until it oozes oil. So start that first.
  2. Simultaneously in a pan saute the slit brinjal in simmer and chop the onion-tomato for that too.
  3. By the time the masala is ready for the biryani add the veggies, basmati rice and let the pressure cooker do the job for the biryani.
  4. Finish the gravy part for the ennai kathirikkai and let the gravy boil in simmer. Both the biryani and gravy would be ready at the same time 🙂
  5. Finally for onion raita – slice onions and add curd + a little bit of salt. Mix and serve. Or make your hubby do it. Much simple right? 🙂
