Jeera Aloo – Cumin Roasted Potato
February 19, 2015 Dry Sabji, Potato Recipes
-
Jeera Aloo is a simple yet mouth-watering side dish with potatoes spiced with cumin seeds and freshly ground curry powder. It gives a magical taste to it. Potato is our favourite, its almost everybody’s favourite. We love potato in any form, be it a dry sabzi like Baby Potato Fry or a gravy like Dum Aloo. This Jeera Aloo goes well with roti or rice. I enjoy eating it with bread too.
Now lets get cooking…[Preparation Time-10 mins : Cooking Time- 20 mins]
Ingredients:
- Potato – 1/2 kg
- Coriander seeds – 2 tbsp
- Cumin seeds – 1 tsp + 1 tsp
- Salt – as needed
- Chilli powder – 1 tsp
- Amchur/Dry mango powder – 1/2 tsp
- Oil – 3 tbsp
- Coriander leaves – few
Method:
- Pressure cook potatoes for 2 whistles. Once cooked remove the skin and cut it into cubes. Heat a pan and dry roast coriander seeds and 1 tsp of cumin seeds until a nice aroma comes. Do not burn it. Grind it into a coarse powder.
- Heat the pan with oil. Once its hot, temper with jeera. To this add cubed potatoes and saute. Add required salt and chilli powder and roast it in medium flame for 10-12 mins.
- Add the freshly ground powder and amchur powder and mix well so that the masala coats the potatoes well. Roast for a few mins. Finally add coriander leaves and mix. Switch off the flame.
Thats it. Irresistible Jeera Aloo is ready.
Serve hot with roti or rice.
Tips:
- The freshly ground powder adds a magical flavour, so do not use store bought powders.
- While dry-roasting make sure not to burn the ingredients. It will spoil the whole recipe.
- Instead of amchur powder u can squeeze 1/2 a lemon finally.
Looks flavorful:-)
