May 2, 2014 Chutney Recipes, Side Dish for Idli/Dosa
-
Peanut chutney is an easy, tasty & healthy chutney that’s goes well with soft idlis or dosa. Apart from roasting & peeling the peanuts there is not much work involved in this recipe.
To be honest – I hate peanuts, but somehow love this nutty flavourful chutney. So if u are like me, try this peanut chutney. It’s surely a winner recipe..
Now to the recipe..
[Preparation Time-5 mins : Cooking Time- 10 mins]
Ingredients:
- Peanuts – 1/2 cup
- Shallots – 10 to 15
- Dry red chillies – 2 to 3
- Curry leaves – 2 sprigs
- Tamarind paste – 1 tsp
- Salt – as needed
- Oil – 1 tbsp
- Mustard – 1 tsp
Method:
- Heat a pan and dry roast peanuts in low flame until a nice aroma comes from it.It will split slightly. Remove the skin by rubbing it in between your palms. Keep this aside. In the same pan add a tsp of oil and roast the dry chillies.
- In the same pan saute the shallots until transparent and keep this aside. Add the curry leaves and switch off the flame. The heat will be enough to roast it.
- Once all the ingredients cool, blend it into a smooth paste in a blender.
- Heat a pan with oil and temper with mustard and curry leaves. Add this to the ground peanut chutney.
Yummy, flavourful peanut chutney is ready.
I served with soft idlis. Is it not a guilt free recipe???
Tips:
- Its better to remove the peanuts skin. It might turn out bitter otherwise. U can skip this step if using roasted peanuts.
- U can add grated coconut and grind it.
- U can add one or two garlic pods too.
Best with Dosa 🙂
