Tulasi Tea or Tulasi Kashayam is a wonder drink made with super simple ingredients. I would say Tulasi is a miracle herb. It is nothing but holy basil. It has a strong and refreshing flavour with loads of health benefits. It is perfect for common cold and flu. There are many varieties of tulasi, but the one we get here is Greek Basil. Have attached a pic of my plant, do have a look if interested. U can call this tea, though I have not added tea leaves/powder here, or kashayam or herbal health drink. Trust me this is such a refreshing drink to boost your immunity. Check out the quick video below..
Pls do include this in your diet atleast 2-3 times in a week if you can get hold of tulasi leaves. We are having it twice a day. Do check out the tips section for tricks to make fussy kids drink this as well. Vethalai Rasam is yet another recipe that helps during common cold and cough.
Here is the video…
Now to the recipe..
[Preparation Time-5 mins : Cooking Time- 10 mins]
Tulasi Tea Ingredients:
- Water – 2 cups
- Crushed Pepper – 1/2 tsp
- Lemon Wedge – 1/4 pc
- Ginger – 1 inch pc
- Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
- Tulasi leaves – 10
Method:
- Add 2 cups of water to a sauce pan. Add crushed pepper, crushed ginger & lemon wedge. Let it come to a boil. Now boil it over medium flame for 3-4 mins so that the all the essence of the ingredients is infused in the water.
- Switch off the flame and add turmeric powder. Add washed tulasi leaves. U can tear it randomly. Cover the sauce pan with a lid and let it brew for 5 mins. Now strain the drink and serve it hot/warm.
Thats it! How simple yet healthy is that!?!
Serve hot or warm.
Tips:
- I agree that making kids to drink this is a challenge. U can add karupatti syrup as shown in the video or honey or panakalkandu. PLS DO NOT ADD SUGAR.
- Even an ounce of this drink is enough to get the health benefits.
- U can add dry tulasi leaves if u cannot find fresh ones.
- Tulasi is good for common cold, digestion, type 2 diabetes and the list goes on..
