Chana Sundal is Chickpeas Sundal/Kondakadalai Sundal. We normally make it during Navaratri. As Navaratri is approaching I thought of posting this recipe. This Chana Sundal is a very simple one. Apart from the over-night soaking time u can make this very quickly. This also serves as a healthy evening snack.

Now to the recipe…

[Soaking Time- Overnight : Cooking Time- 10 mins]

  • Chana / Chickpeas – 1 cup
  • Salt – as needed
  • Coconut (grated) – 2 tbsp
  • Oil – 1 tbsp
  • Mustard – 1 tsp
  • Urad Dal – 1 tsp
  • Asafoetida – a pinch
  • Red Chillies – 1 or 2

  • Drain the excess water and keep the cooked chickpeas aside. Heat a pan with oil and temper with mustard, urad dal, torn red chillies, asafoetida and curry leaves. To this add the cooked chickpeas and saute. Finally add grated coconut and mix so that all the ingredients blend well.

That’s it!!! Chana Sundal is ready.

Serve hot.

  1. U can replace red chillies with green chillies.
  2. U can make this chana sundal with white or black/brown chickpeas.
  3. U can add chopped/grated mango after tempering and saute for a few seconds, and then add the cooked chickpeas.
