Sweet Pidi Kozhukattai is a simple and quick kozhukattai for Pillayar Chathurthi. This year Pillayar Chathurthi is on the 17th of September. No special skill is needed to make this yummy kozhukattai. There are 2 methods of making it. I have given step wise pics for both the versions below. Both the versions come out well. U can also make a savoury version of this, which I will be posting next.
Now to the recipe..
[Preparation Time-10 mins : Cooking Time- 25 mins]
Ingredients:
- Rice Flour – 1 cup
- Jaggery – 1/2 cup
- Grated coconut – 1 tbsp
- Sesame seed – 1 tbsp
- Water – 1 to 1 & 1/2 cups
Method:
- Heat a pan and dry roast rice flour for a min. Transfer it to a bowl. In the same pan, roast grated coconut and sesame seeds separately and transfer it to the rice flour.
- Heat jaggery and water in a pan just until the jaggery dissolves. Strain it and transfer it to a non stick pan. Bring it to a boil (no consistency is required) and add the rice flour mixture, stirring simultaneously.
- Mix well until it becomes a sticky dough. Switch off the flame. When it is still warm, press it with your hands and make it into a soft dough. Grease your hands with a little bit of oil. Take a small ball sized dough
- Make oval shapes and press it with your fingers to make impressions as shown in the picture below. Arrange it in a steamer plate or idli plate and steam for 7 – 10 mins.
Sweet Pidi Kozhukattai is ready.
Serve warm.
Tips:
- U can use rice flour or idiyappam flour.
- After making the dough, keep it covered. Else it will become dry.
- Water quantity may vary depending upon the quality of rice flour. So add accordingly keeping the above measurements as a base.
- After adding the rice flour to the jaggery syrup, act quickly. Also make sure there are no lumps.
- The color of the Sweet Pidi Kozhukattai depends on the type of jaggery u use.
- The other method of making this is by adding jaggery syrup to the rice flour mixture and kneading it into a dough while it is still warm. In this case add 1/2 cup of water to the jaggery and make a syrup. Strain it and add it to make a dough. Continue with the rest of the procedure as above.
