Traditionally it is made in a pot for Pongal festival, but here I have used the pressure cooker method for convenience. The best combo for Sakkarai Pongal is Medhu Vadai. September 21, 2017 Navaratri SpecialSweets/Desserts  3 comments

Paal Kesari or Milk Kesari is a simple South Indian sweet. I made this for the 1st day of Navaratri (today). Perfect for this festive season and for sudden cravings/guests. It is very similar to the normal Rava Kesari. The addition of milk gives it a magical taste. It tasted more like a halwa! The needed ingredients are always available at home. All u need is 15-20 mins. Do check my Semiya Kesari, Pineapple Kesari & Aval Kesari recipes too.

Coconut Rice – South Indian Coconut Rice

February 9, 2017 Bachelor Friendly RecipesCoconutNavaratri SpecialRice Varieties  5 comments

Coconut Rice is a simple and yummy lunch box rice variety. It can be made in just 15 to 20 mins. Not much cooking skills are needed to make this. In the sense, it is perfect for bachelors. Am not a big fan of variety rice, but once in a while I like to have it. Puliyodharai is an exception though! Coconut Rice and potato fry is an unbeatable combo! In fact I would say it is the default combo at home 🙂 Finally not to forget that this Coconut Rice tastes very flavourful when made with freshly grated coconut.

Masal Vadai – Paruppu Vadai – Masala Vadai

January 31, 2017 Diwali SnacksNavaratri SpecialSnacks / Starters  5 comments

Masal Vadai is a popular South Indian tea time snack. It is very commonly available in the local tea shops there. I should say it smell’s divine if u happen to be near a tea shop when they make it. It is perfect on a rainy day with a hot cup of coffee or tea. It’s also called Paruppu Vadai. Usually some people do not prefer to add fennel seeds. U can skip it if u don’t want.. The only planning u need to do is the soaking of chana dal. If that is done the rest of the process can be done in 15-20 mins. Medhu Vadai Recipe HERE.

Now to the recipe...

Lemon Rice is a very common and popular South Indian rice variety. It is an easy and quick lunch box recipe. All u need is rice, lemon juice and tempering. I pretty much told the recipe here. Actually this is not a fancy recipe to be published here, but there are many beginners/bachelors who really need this. My favourite among these rice varieties is Puliyotharai especially with home made Pulikaichal. This Lemon Rice is good to go as is or divine with any potato sabji & papad/crisps.

I have always wanted to try millet sakkarai pongal. The procedure to make this Varagu Sakkarai Pongal is very similar to the normal Sakkarai Pongal made with rice. This is perfect to make for Pongal festival. Actually to be honest, we did not find any difference in the taste, in the sense it tasted as good as the normal Sakkarai Pongal. When there is no compromise in taste, why not choose a much healthier option?!?  Do check my Aval Sakkarai Pongal as well.. Varagu is known as Kodo Millet in english.

Kollu Sundal – Horsegram Sundal

September 29, 2016 Navaratri Special  4 comments

Navaratri is around the corner. This Kollu Sundal is a flavourful and easy sundal to make during Navaratri. The only planning needed to make this sundal is to soak kollu/horsegram overnight. After making the Kollu Rasam, for which I used only a little portion of the cooked kollu, I made this Kollu Sundal. It was so flavourful and filling.

Do check my full collection for Navaratri HERE !!
