Peas Masala is a yummy side dish that goes well with roti and pulao varieties like Jeera Rice or any mild pulao.. Mostly when I run out of vegetables I make this dish, as frozen peas is one vegetable that is always available in my kitchen.
Now to the recipe…
Peas Masala Ingredients:
- Green Peas (frozen or fresh) – 1 cup
- Onion – 2 medium
- Tomatoes – 2
- Coriander & Mint leaves – 1 handful each
- Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
- Chilli powder – 1 tsp
- Coriander Powder – 1 tbsp
- Salt – as needed
- Cashew or Badam – 7 to 10 nos
- Milk – 1/8th cup
- Oil – 3 tbsp
Method:
- Heat a pan with oil and saute cubed onions. Once the onions are transparent add chopped tomatoes until mushy. Finally add the coriander & mint leaves, saute for a few seconds and switch off the flame. Cool and grind it to a paste.
- Heat a pan with oil and temper with cumin seeds and fry for a few seconds. Add finely chopped onions and saute until they are brown. Add in the ground paste followed by the spice powders – salt, chilli powder & coriander powder.
- Mix, so that the masalas combine well and cook in low-medium flame till oil separates. Add the peas and required water and mix. Let it boil in low-medium flame until the peas are cooked in the gravy.
- Meanwhile soak badam or cashews in milk. Grind it to a smooth paste. Finally add it to the cooked peas masala gravy. Mix and cook for a further 1 min.
Creamy & delicious peas masala is ready to serve. Serve it with roti or pulao.
Tips:
- You can use frozen peas or fresh peas.
- I haven’t added ginger garlic paste or garam masala because I prefer the coriander & mint leaves flavour to dominate. You can add as per your choice.
- You can add fresh cream too.
