Poondu Murukku / Garlic Murukku is a flavourful crunchy snack perfect for tea time. I had this post lying in my draft since Diwali. Did not find time to post it then. But this is not only meant for Diwali, can be had during normal times too. Its a simple procedure. Have made it like a round, proper murukku. If u find it difficult pls refer the video to make it randomly too. Video with both the methods. Do try my Butter Murukku & Potato Murukku too. Both are my favourites 🙂

Here is the video..

Now to the recipe.

Poondu Murukku Ingredients:

  • Rice Flour – 1 cup
  • Besan/Chickpea flour – 1/4 cup

Method:

  • Sieve both rice flour and besan to discard any lumps. Add salt, chilli powder, asafoetida & oil. Meanwhile grind the garlic along with little water smoothly without any lumps.

  • Mix the flours well so that all the ingredients blend with each other. Now add the garlic paste, needed water and make a smooth dough. Use the single star mould to make the Poondu Murukku.

  • Squeeze the dough in a circular motion on a ladle. Keep 2-3 ready like this. Refer video. Drop it in hot oil and cook until the sound/bubble ceases. Drain it in paper towels and store it in air tight container once it cools down completely.

Thats it! Crunchy & flavourful Poondu Murukku is ready!

Store in an air tight container once it cools completely.

Tips;

  1. U can add a tbsp of butter for a much melt in the mouth texture.
  2. The dough should not be very tight. Else the murukku will turn out hard.
  3. U can grind red chillies along with garlic if u prefer and skip the chilli powder.
