November 21, 2019 Bell Pepper/CapsicumKootu / Poriyal Varieties  No comments

Capsicum Paruppu Usili, Yes u read it right! I never knew capsicum can be made in paruppu usili style until I tasted it a friend’s place. Really loved it. Thanks “J” for the idea 🙂 Usually paruppu usili is made with beans, vazhaipoo, cluster beans… Capsicum adds a zing to it. Unlike beans or vazhaipoo, capsicum gets cooked very quickly. Goes well with sambar, rasam or mor kuzhambu. Check out the video..

Tawa Pulao – Street Style Tawa Pulao

October 30, 2019 Biryani/PulaoLunch Box MenuMixed VegRice Varieties  No comments

Tawa Pulao or Pav Bhaji Pulao is a popular street style Pulao of Mumbai. Street vendors use a big sized tawa. I simply love the way they make Pav Bhaji. Wanted to try this Tawa Pulao since a long time but wanted to try a small amount as to fit my size of Tawa. Made it on a day when I cooked lunch only for me 🙂 Made this just to post it here, otherwise would have ended up eating noodles or Pasta. Came out very well. Apparently just gave a taster to my boys and made it again the next day on popular demand. 🙂 Check the video..

Vazhaipoo Paruppu Usili – Vazhaipoo Usili

September 10, 2019 Kootu / Poriyal VarietiesVazhaipoo Recipes  No comments

Vazhaipoo Paruppu Usili is a traditional recipe. Paruppu Usili is nothing but a blend of lentils and spices, which is then mixed with vazhaipoo or other veggies. Paruppu Usili can be made with beans, cluster beans too. It is actually a handy recipe to increase the quantity of poriyal when u end up buying a little less of the veggie. It tastes awesome with Mor Kuzhambu. Mor Kuzhambu & Beans Usili is the normal “Hit” combo at home. This was good too. 🙂  Cleaning Vazhaipoo is a cumbersome task, but it is worth its health benefits. Check HERE for the cleaning process with video.

Now to the reci...

Kasi Halwa – White Pumpkin Halwa

July 19, 2018 Diwali SweetsHalwa RecipesHoli RecipesPumpkin/White PumpkinSweets/Desserts  One comment

Kasi Halwa is a very popular South Indian Halwa served in weddings. It is nothing but Halwa made out of grated white pumpkin (also known as ash gourd). The only job is to grate white pumpkin. It can be made very quickly and easily. Does not require a lot of ghee unlike this Atta Halwa. Love the glossy texture of this Halwa. I have had no plans of making this halwa at home as we hardly get White Pumpkin here. So when I happened to see it during my shopping, was so excited that I almost bought half of a big sized pumpkin. Only after reaching home did I realise the weight & price. Its so damn costly here 🙁  But after making this halwa, was so happy and totally forgot everything 🙂
