Seppankizhangu Fry – Arbi Fry – Arbi Roast

August 5, 2020 Bachelor Friendly RecipesKootu / Poriyal VarietiesNO Onion NO GarlicPotato Recipes  One comment

Seppankizhangu is a variety of potato also known as Arbi, Colocasia, Taro Root but with a sticky nature. All I know is Seppankizhangu πŸ™‚Β  This Seppankizhangu Fry is a simple side dish for rice along with sambar, Β rasam or mor kuzhambu. It is everybody’s favourite in my family. I love seppankizhangu to the core. My most fav combo is with Mor Kuzhambu. Because of its sticky nature, Chotu calls this as sticky potato. Amma tempers this Seppankizhangu fry with ajwain. It gives such a magical aroma & taste to it. For another version of this try this RECIPE.

Sodhi Recipe – Tirunelveli Sodhi Recipe

July 18, 2020 CoconutKuzhambu Varieties  No comments

Sodhi is a very rich coconut milk based recipe which is native to our place (Tirunelveli). This is a must in our marriages. It is usully made on the next day of the wedding known as Maru Veedu. Our weddings are like a 3 day festival and the highlight is this Sodhi Sapadu. This is served with Inji Thuvaiyal (recipe coming next), potato fry & potato chips. Totally divine. A tip for eating this which many are not aware – It is meant to be eaten like Rasam Rice and not like Sambar Rice. Meaning you must pour more sodhi generously than the amount of rice. Eating this on a banana leaf is a trick yet heavenly. Goes well with dosa as well.

Poori Bhaji is a very popular north Indian combo. South Indians would vote for Poori Masala. This is also a very yummy combo since both are potato based recipes. Potato is an all rounder veggie. I have been wanting to post this recipe here since a long time. This Aloo Poori Bhaji is Chotu`s favourite. He once tried in this in a restaurant and became a fan of it. It is simple to make. Try this combo next time u make pooris. Check HERE for Poori recipe.

Cabbage Vada | Cabbage Vadai | Cabbage Dal Vada

June 2, 2020 CabbageSnacks / Starters  No comments

Cabbage Vada is a simple yet tasty tea time snack. Stays crispy even after it cools down. All u need to plan ahead is the soaking time of chana dal. Other than that this can be made in less than 30 mins. This is similar to Masal Vadai. It is much crispier than Masal Vadai due to the addition of cabbage. Perfect for fussy kids who refuse to eat cabbage as is as a vegetable. Do check out the video, I sould say VIDEO WITH A NEW LOOK & with DESCRIPTIONS IN TAMIL & HINDI πŸ™‚Β  All your comments and feedback are welcome!

Hope you all are keeping well. What to cook has become a brain rattling question everyday, especially lunch menus. The moment my family members are up in the morning, the first question would be what’s for lunch? One such day, when I had nothing in mind, made this humble Thengai Thogayal for rice and paired it with some Vadai. Truly divine. Its an easy meal to cook & not the usual menu to satisfy the family πŸ™‚Β  And if u ask me why this Coconut Thuvayal, I had nothing else handy to grind. HAHA

Sweet Corn Gravy – Sweet Corn Curry

April 24, 2020 Dals/GraviesSweet Corn  No comments

While we are all still staying at home, am trying to make food more interesting with the limited ingredients available in the pantry or at the stores. This Sweet Corn Gravy is one such recipe. I have never tried a gravy with sweet corn. Well before that I am not a big fan of sweet corn so I seldom buy it. I had grabbed a bag of frozen sweet corn before the lockdown, just because frozen peas was not available. So now it justifies why I am here with this Sweet Corn Gravy recipe. It turned out really well, sweet corn in spicy gravy. We liked the sweet-spicy combo. Do try my Peas Masala or Methi Matar Malai recipes if you want to use Peas instead.

Capsicum Paruppu Usili, Yes u read it right! I never knew capsicum can be made in paruppu usili style until I tasted it a friend’s place. Really loved it. Thanks “J” for the idea πŸ™‚ Usually paruppu usili is made with beans, vazhaipoo, cluster beans… Capsicum adds a zing to it. Unlike beans or vazhaipoo, capsicum gets cooked very quickly. Goes well with sambar, rasam or mor kuzhambu. Check out the video..
