Karuveppilai or curry leaves have a lot of medicinal value. It is a very rich source of iron. This Karuveppilai Podi is a good method to sneak-peek curry leaves. Its very simple to make too. Try making this flavorful Karuveppilai Podi and enjoy its health benefits.

[Preparation Time-5 mins : Cooking Time- 5 mins]
Ingredients:
- Curry Leaves – 1 cup (tightly packed)
- Urad Dal – 1/4 cup
- Chana Dal – 2 tbsp
- Red Chillies – 10 to 12
- Pepper – 1 tsp
- Asafoetida – a generous pinch
- Salt – as needed
Method:
- Heat a pan and dry roast urad dal & chana dal until golden brown separately. Keep this aside. Add a generous pinch of asafoetida to the hot dal. In the same pan dry roast red chillies for a few minutes. Keep this aside.
- Wash and pat dry the curry leaves to remove any excess water. In the same pan dry roast it until there is no moisture in it. The curry leaves should be crispy and get crushed when u press it with your hands.
- Take a blender and first grind red chillies, urad dal & chana dal into a powder. Then add the roasted curry leaves, required salt and grind it into a fine powder.
Karuveppilai Podi is ready.
Store it in an air-tight container and serve with hot steamed rice.
Tips:
- Oil is not required to roast the ingredients. Dry roasting will do.
- U can add a small amount of tamarind while grinding too.
