Garlic Paruppu Podi – Garlic Lentils Powder

Podi varieties are always handy and come to the rescue on a lazy day. Its a very quick option for bachelors as well. This Garlic Paruppu Podi is a simple and spicy podi that tastes divine with hot steamed rice, topped with ghee. I have already posted a Paruppu Podi recipe earlier. This one is quite different and spicy. The addition of garlic takes the paruppu podi to the next level.
Now to the recipe..
[Preparation Time-5 mins : Cooking Time- 10 mins]
Ingredients:
- Toor Dal – 1 cup
- Roasted Bengal Gram Dal/Pottukadalai – 1 cup
- Red Chillies – 10
- Pepper – 1 tsp
- Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
- Garlic – 5 to 6 cloves
- Curry leaves – 2 sprigs
- Salt – as needed
Method:
- Heat a pan and dry roast the red chillies until golden brown and crisp. Keep it aside. In the same pan roast the toor dal until u get a nice aroma and it is brown. To this add the cumin seeds, pepper and roast for a few more seconds. Keep it aside.
- In the same pan roast the pottukadalai until it gets heated up evenly. No need to change colour. Keep it aside. Finally add the garlic pods and curry leaves. Roast till the curry leaves are crisp. Allow all the roasted ingredients to cool down.
- Take all the ingredients except garlic and curry leaves in a mixer and grind it into a smooth powder. Finally add the garlic, curry leaves and grind again until smooth. Let it cool and store in an airtight container.
Thats it!! Garlic Pruppu Podi is ready!!
Serve with hot steamed rice and ghee!!
Tips:
- Adjust red chillies according to your preferences.
- Adding pepper is totally optional. U can skip it.
- Garlic surely enhances the flavour of the Garlic Paruppu Podi. So do not skip it.
