Plum Rasam!! Yes you read it right!! This is an easy rasam recipe with plums. Had recently bought some plums as they looked bright in color & very attractive. But tasted very sour & tart. Could not eat them as is & at the same time did not want to waste too.. So tried this plum rasam & came out very well.. So do try this nutritious rasam.
Now to the recipe..
[Preparation Time-10 mins : Cooking Time- 20 mins]
Plum Rasam Ingredients:
- Plums – 3 to 4 (see tips)
- Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
- Asafoetida – a pinch
- Salt – as needed
- Oil – 1 tsp
- Curry leaves – a sprig
- Coriander leaves – few
- Mustard – 1 tsp
- Cumin seeds/Jeera – 1/2 tsp
- Fenugreek seeds – 1/4 tsp
For Rasam powder:
- Pepper corns – 10 to 15
- Coriander seeds – 1 tsp
- Jeera – 1/2 tsp
- Toor Dal – 1/2 tsp
- Rice – 1/2 tsp
Method:
- Take all the ingredients mentioned under “For Rasam Powder” in a mixer and grind it to a coarse powder. Keep this aside.
- Wash the plums well and cook it in boiling water for 3-5 mins. The skin will start peeling on its own. Once it cools down, discard the skin & seeds. Mash the pulp well with a fork.
- To the plum pulp, add enough water, salt, rasam powder, turmeric powder, asafoetida, curry leaves, coriander leaves & mix. Bring it to a boil & switch off the flame.
- Heat a pan with oil & temper with mustard, jeera & fenugreek seeds. Add this to the plum rasam.
Yummy Plum Rasam is ready.
Serve hot with steamed rice & any poriyal/papad. Best combo would be Baby Potato Fry.
Tips:
- The number of plums depends upon the sourness of plums. If they are very sour reduce accordingly.
- Do not boil the rasam for a long time. Just bring it to a boil and switch off.
- U can add crushed garlic for an extra flavour.
- U can add a tsp of sugar or jaggery too.
