Palak Paratha – Spinach Paratha

Roti/Paratha
-
Palak Paratha is an easy and healthy twist to the normal roti. Especially to those fussy kids who refuse to eat spinach. The vibrant green colour is another added advantage to attract kids. This Palak Paratha along with some dal and sabji is a complete balanced meal. Last time when I bought a packet of spinach, I ended up making some Palak Pakoda and the rest went into this paratha. I served it with dal and cauliflower sabji 🙂
Now to the recipe…
[Preparation Time – 10 mins : Cooking Time- 25 mins]
Palak Paratha Ingredients:
- Wheat Flour – 1 cup
- Spinach – 1 cup (tightly packed)
- Garlic – 2 cloves
- Salt – as needed
- Chilli powder – 1 tsp
- Garam masala – 1/4 tsp
- Oil – 1 tsp
Method:
- Separate the spinach leaves from the stem. Small and tender stems are ok though. Wash and keep it ready. Heat a pan with oil and add finely chopped garlic. Saute until the raw smell goes off. To this add the cleaned spinach. Saute and cook for a couple of minutes. It will shrink. Switch off and let it cool.
- Once it cools down grind it into a smooth paste. Take wheat flour, salt, chilli powder and garam masala in a wide bowl. Mix well so that the ingredients blend well. To this add the spinach puree.
- Mix well to make a smooth dough. I did not add any water. The spinach puree was just fine to knead it into a smooth dough. Make equal sized balls. Use a roller pin to flatten it uniformly just like a normal chapathi. Dust it with flour as and when needed.
- Meanwhile heat a tawa and transfer the paratha to it. When u see bubbles coming up, flip and cook it on the other side. U can brush both the sides with very little oil. Use a spatula to press and cook evenly.
Thats it!! Healthy Palak Paratha is ready!!
Serve hot with any sabji of your choice.
Tips:
- I made the spinach into a puree, added to the flour and made the dough. If u dont want to grind it, u can chop the spinach finely, saute it and add it as is to the flour and make the dough.
- Add water only if needed to make the dough. Mix well and then decide if water is needed.
- U can skip the garam masala if u dont want.
- U can skip red chilli powder and add finely chopped green chillies along with garlic and saute.
