Thattai is a savoury snack that can be made for Diwali or as a tea time snack, though I make it only during Diwali. Savoury snacks are always a hit at home. As I am the only sweet toothed here 🙂 So these kind of snacks will be finished in no time. This Thattai recipe is an instant one that can be made with store bought rice flour. This is yet another full video recipe for Diwali 🙂

Here is the full video….

Tips:

  1. Soaking the chana dal is very important. Soak atleast for 30 mins. Do not add as is without soaking.
  2. The soaked chana dal gives an extra punch to the Thattai.
  3. Pricking the thattai randomly helps it getting cooked evenly.
  4. Check the oil before dropping the Thattai. It should be hot enough so that that Thattai floats immediately after dropping it in. Cook in medium flame for even cooking.
  5. U can replace butter with oil.
  6. Make the thattai as thin as possible to get crispy ones.
  7. I have used store bought urad dal powder. For Roasted gram dal powder, u can grind pottu kadalai in a mixer, sieve it without any lumps and use it.
