Sweet Pidi Kozhukattai is a simple and quick kozhukattai for Pillayar Chathurthi. This year Pillayar Chathurthi is on the 17th of September. No special skill is needed to make this yummy kozhukattai. There are 2 methods of making it. I have given step wise pics for both the versions below. Both the versions come out well. U can also make a savoury version of this, which I will be posting next.

Now to the recipe..

  • Heat jaggery and water in a pan just until the jaggery dissolves. Strain it and transfer it to a non stick pan. Bring it to a boil (no consistency is required) and add the rice flour mixture, stirring simultaneously.

  • Mix well until it becomes a sticky dough. Switch off the flame. When it is still warm, press it with your hands and make it into a soft dough. Grease your hands with a little bit of oil. Take a small ball sized dough

Tips:

  1. U can use rice flour or idiyappam flour.
  2. After making the dough, keep it covered. Else it will become dry.
  3. Water quantity may vary depending upon the quality of rice flour. So add accordingly keeping the above measurements as a base.
  4. After adding the rice flour to the jaggery syrup, act quickly. Also make sure there are no lumps.
  5. The color of the Sweet Pidi Kozhukattai depends on the type of jaggery u use.
  6. The other method of making this is by adding jaggery syrup to the rice flour mixture and kneading it into a dough while it is still warm. In this case add 1/2 cup of water to the jaggery and make a syrup. Strain it and add it to make a dough. Continue with the rest of the procedure as above.
