Ribbon Pakoda or Ola Pakoda is an ideal snack recipe for Diwali. This is one of my favourites since childhood along with this Thengai Paal Murukku. It is also known as Nada Thenkuzhal/thukkada. This is a perfect tea time snack and for kids snacks box too. I had posted this long long ago. Now have updated with new pics and video 🙂 With Diwali arriving in a couple of week’s time, lets switch on the Diwali mode with this crunchy, savoury snack

Here is the video..

Now to the recipe…

Method:

  • Take besan flour and rice flour and sieve it to get rid of any lumps. Add butter, salt, chilli powder, asafoetida and mix so that it blends well. Add water little by little to form a soft dough.

  • Heat oil in a pan for deep frying. Use the pattern for pressing as shaped below. Fill in with a batch of dough and press it in hot oil. Add less layers to ensure even cooking. Flip to the other side once it stops sizzling and cook until it stops sizzling again.

Drain it in a paper towel. Repeat the process for the rest of the dough.

Crispy and crunchy Ribbon Pakoda is ready!

Store it in an air tight container once it cools down completely.

Tips:

  1. Fry the pakoda in hot oil, else it will not be crispy and will absorb more oil too..
  2. Pepper powder can be used for the spiciness. But it must be fine enough to get through the hole, else it will get stuck.
  3.  White or black sesame seeds can be added for an extra flavour.
  4. U can add 1/2 cup of roasted chana dal powder and reduce besan accordingly.
  5. With the above measurements it will yield about 250 gms of Ribbon Pakoda.
