Plum Rasam!! Yes you read it right!! This is an easy rasam recipe with plums. Had recently bought some plums as they looked bright in color & very attractive. But tasted very sour & tart. Could not eat them as is & at the same time did not want to waste too.. So tried this plum rasam & came out very well.. So do try this nutritious rasam.

Now to the recipe..

Plum Rasam My Magic Pan

[Preparation Time-10 mins : Cooking Time- 20 mins]

Plum Rasam Ingredients:

  • Plums – 3 to 4 (see tips)
  • Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
  • Asafoetida – a pinch
  • Salt – as needed
  • Oil – 1 tsp
  • Curry leaves – a sprig
  • Coriander leaves – few
  • Mustard – 1 tsp
  • Cumin seeds/Jeera – 1/2 tsp
  • Fenugreek seeds – 1/4 tsp

For Rasam powder:

  • Pepper corns – 10 to 15
  • Coriander seeds – 1 tsp
  • Jeera – 1/2 tsp
  • Toor Dal – 1/2 tsp
  • Rice – 1/2 tsp

Method:

  • Take all the ingredients mentioned under “For Rasam Powder” in a mixer and grind it to a coarse powder. Keep this aside.

  • Wash the plums well and cook it in boiling water for 3-5 mins. The skin will start peeling on its own. Once it cools down, discard the skin & seeds. Mash the pulp well with a fork.

  • To the plum pulp, add enough water, salt, rasam powder, turmeric powder, asafoetida, curry leaves, coriander leaves & mix. Bring it to a boil & switch off the flame.

  • Heat a pan with oil & temper with mustard, jeera & fenugreek seeds. Add this to the plum rasam.

Yummy Plum Rasam is ready.

Serve hot with steamed rice & any poriyal/papad. Best combo would be Baby Potato Fry.

Tips:

  1. The number of plums depends upon the sourness of plums. If they are very sour reduce accordingly.
  2. Do not boil the rasam for a long time. Just bring it to a boil and switch off.
  3. U can add crushed garlic for an extra flavour.
  4. U can add a tsp of sugar or jaggery too.
