Oats Pakoda – Oats Pakora

Pakoda is always our family favourite. This Oats Pakoda adds an additional healthy twist to the normal pakodas, due to the hero of the recipe “Oats”. Though deep fried, it is actually ok to have such addictive snacks once in a while. Besides oats having a sticky nature, this Oats Pakoda will be crispy, light and airy. This is a perfect after school snack too.

Now to the recipe..

Method:

  • Take oats in a wide bowl and add water upto immersing level. Leave it for 5-6 mins. Meanwhile chop the onion, ginger and coriander leaves. To the soaked oats, add besan, rice flour, onion, ginger, coriander, salt and chilli powder. Mix well to make a semi-solid batter.

  • Heat oil in a pan and drop small pieces of the mixture into the hot oil. U can use a spoon to drop it in oil too. Cook until golden brown by flipping it and cooking it evenly on oil sides. Drain it in paper towels.

Tips:

  1. Unlike other pakodas, where I do not add any water, this Oats Pakoda demands some water for the oats to be soaked.
  2. The batter consistency is also different from other pakodas. If the batter is very thick, it will result in thick and non-crispy Oats Pakoda. Adjust water accordingly and make sure the batter is semi-solid so that u can drop it with a spoon into the hot oil.
  3. This Oats Pakoda will be crispy, light and airy inside if the batter consistency is right.
  4. U can also shallow fry instead of deep frying.
  5. Substitute finely chopped green chillies instead of chilli powder if u prefer.
