Mooli Paratha

Mooli Paratha or Radish Paratha is a stuffed paratha variety. Its a perfect lunch box idea for kids as well as adults. This does not require any side dish & goes well with any raita or pickle. Simple & quick isnt’t it? Amma is an expert in making these Mooli Paratha’s without spilling out the stuffing. I learnt the trick from her.

And here you go with the recipe…

[Preparation Time-15 mins : Cooking Time- 30 mins]

Ingredients:

For the stuffing

  • Radish (grated) – 2 cups
  • Salt – as needed
  • Chilli powder – 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
  • Coriander leaves (chopped) – few
  • Oil – 1 tsp

For Paratha

  • Wheat Flour – 2 cups
  • Salt – as needed
  • Water – as needed
  • Oil – to brush

Method:

  • Peel the skin of radish and grate it. Squeeze the excess water from it and reserve it.(See tips). Heat a pan with oil and add the grated, squeezed radish and saute for a few mins. Add salt, turmeric powder and chilli powder and saute for 7-10 mins or until its dry. Finally add coriander leaves and let it cool completely.

  • Take a wide bowl and add wheat flour, salt and mix. Add the reserved squeezed water little by little and make a soft dough (add water too if required). Pinch a small ball sized dough and roll it into a small disc.

  • Place a generous amount of stuffing in it. Pinch all the edges of the dough to the centre and seal it on top.

  • Roll the stuffed dough with light hands into a thick paratha. (Slighlty thicker than the normal chapathis/rotis) Heat a tawa and cook the stuffed mooli paratha evenly on both sides. Brush some oil and cook in medium flame until golden brown..

Simple & delicious Mooli Paratha is ready.

Serve hot with raita/pickle of your choice.

Tips:

  1. Squeezing the excess water from grated radish is very important. Also saute it until its dry, else the stuffing will let out water and will be difficult to roll.
  2. I have not added any other spice powders except chilli powder & turmeric powder. U can add garam masala powder and coriander powder too while sauteing it.
