Karuveppilai Kuzhambu – Curry Leaves Kuzhambu

June 17, 2021 Kuzhambu Varieties  No comments

Karuveppilai Kuzhambu or Curry Leaves Kuzhambu is a very healthy kuzhambu variety. I always prefer to use curry leaves by grinding them rather than just adding them in curries (just for flavour) and discarding while eating it. I do add it in curries for flavour but prefer to use the health benefits fully by making this Kuzhambu or Thuvaiyal. This Kuzhambu is really flavour as we are going to use freshly ground powder to make it. Do check out my video for tips and tricks to make this lip-smacking kulambu.

Sodhi Recipe – Tirunelveli Sodhi Recipe

July 18, 2020 CoconutKuzhambu VarietiesTirunelveli Style Recipes  No comments

Sodhi is a very rich coconut milk based recipe which is native to our place (Tirunelveli). This is a must in our marriages. It is usully made on the next day of the wedding known as Maru Veedu. Our weddings are like a 3 day festival and the highlight is this Sodhi Sapadu. This is served with Inji Thuvaiyal (recipe coming next), potato fry & potato chips. Totally divine. A tip for eating this which many are not aware – It is meant to be eaten like Rasam Rice and not like Sambar Rice. Meaning you must pour more sodhi generously than the amount of rice. Eating this on a banana leaf is a trick yet heavenly. Goes well with dosa as well.

June 10, 2017 Keerai/SpinachKuzhambu Varieties  2 comments

Vendhaya Keerai Sambar is a very easy and simple sambar with the goodness of vendhaya keerai/methi leaves. Methi leaves are a good source of iron and fibre. I usually make Methi Paratha with it. This time wanted to make a sambar. Trust me the sambar will not taste bitter. It will be very flavourful with the magic of methi leaves. Do check my homemade Sambar Powder recipe too.

Mor Kuzhambu with Vadai – Mor Kuzhambu

February 16, 2017 Kuzhambu VarietiesTirunelveli Style Recipes  7 comments

Mor Kuzhambu or Butter Milk Kuzhambu is an easy and quick kuzhambu that most of u might know. Just sharing here, my version of it. Vegetables that can be added include okra, chow chow or poosanikai. Paruppu Vadai with Mor kuzhambu is a special and perfect combination. This goes well with steamed rice and paruppu usili or potato fry or seppankizhangu fry. I make it with vadai when time permits, else with veggies. Both tastes good. If nothing is available, I make it as a plain kuzhambu and temper it with vadagam too.

After all the festival food, we wanted a spicy kulambu like this Poondu Kulambu. This Poondu Kulambu is an easy, spicy & lip-smacking one which does not involve any grinding. Usually when it comes to kulambu with garlic my favourite would be this Puzhi Kuzhambu, but when I want to make a quick one I choose this Poondu Kulambu. Was just wondering how I missed to publish this recipe here all these days. Can be made very quickly with simple ingredients that are always available in the kitchen.

Mochai Murungai Kulambu – Mochai Kuzhambu

February 24, 2016 Kuzhambu Varieties  4 comments

Mochai Kuzhambu is a lip-smacking, flavourful kulambu variety. I love mochai, but unfortunately we dont get fresh mochai here. So I always use the dry ones. Mochai by itself gives a wonderful flavour/taste to the kuzhambu. Adding drumstick enhances the taste even more. Somehow, this Mochai Kuzhambu tastes even better the next day!! Serves well with hot steamed rice and appalam. U dont need any other side dish as such.

After all the festive food, we really wanted a simple and spicy meal. This Puli Milagai is one dish which is spicy, tangy and mildly sweet. It is easy to make and goes well with dal rice/paruppu sadham and even idli/dosa. We usually prefer the consistency to be a bit runny, U can make it thicker too. I served with rice, paruppu and Vazhakkai Puttu.

Tomato Gotsu or Thakkali Gotsu is an excellent side dish for idli/dosa. It is a very easy and quick fix sambar kind of side dish. When u run out of time, this can be made very quickly without much preparation work. Chotu is a big fan of hot, crispy dosa and sambar. I mostly make this tiffin sambar or this tiffin sambar. This Tomato Gotsu is a nice variation to it. Chotu calls this tomato sambar.

This pairs equally well with Ven Pongal too..
