Capsicum Sambar – Kudamilagai Sambar

November 1, 2017 Kuzhambu/Rasam Varieties  No comments

Sambar is an essential item in every South Indian household. Usually it is made with veggies like drumstick, brinjal.. This time I tried it with capsicum and to my surprise it added a magical flavour to it. It so happened that a friend of mine had come home & I had nothing in the fridge other than capsicum. So made this Capsicum Sambar & garlic potato fry. Just could not believe that I gained many junior fans for this sambar. Since then, I was wanting to make this post. Finally clicked & shot the video as well. So trust me it is a very flavourful one. Do try it!

Rasam always gets a warm welcome at home! Any type of rasam and a simple stir fry is an all time comfort food. This time it is a simple and flavourful Watermelon Rasam. Yes it is, u heard it right! Its sweet, sour, tangy – all tastes in one rasam. Nobody at home could find out that it was made out of watermelon. Watermelon is the hero of this recipe. I de-seeded the watermelon and extracted juice. Last but not the least, it is very colourful 🙂

June 10, 2017 Kuzhambu/Rasam Varieties  2 comments

Vendhaya Keerai Sambar is a very easy and simple sambar with the goodness of vendhaya keerai/methi leaves. Methi leaves are a good source of iron and fibre. I usually make Methi Paratha with it. This time wanted to make a sambar. Trust me the sambar will not taste bitter. It will be very flavourful with the magic of methi leaves. Do check my homemade Sambar Powder recipe too.

Mor Kuzhambu with Vadai – Mor Kuzhambu

February 16, 2017 Kuzhambu/Rasam Varieties  7 comments

Mor Kuzhambu or Butter Milk Kuzhambu is an easy and quick kuzhambu that most of u might know. Just sharing here, my version of it. Vegetables that can be added include okra, chow chow or poosanikai. Paruppu Vadai with Mor kuzhambu is a special and perfect combination. This goes well with steamed rice and paruppu usili or potato fry or seppankizhangu fry. I make it with vadai when time permits, else with veggies. Both tastes good. If nothing is available, I make it as a plain kuzhambu and temper it with vadagam too.

Poondu Kulambu – Onion Garlic Kulambu

January 15, 2017 Kuzhambu/Rasam Varieties  6 comments

After all the festival food, we wanted a spicy kulambu like this Poondu Kulambu. This Poondu Kulambu is an easy, spicy & lip-smacking one which does not involve any grinding. Usually when it comes to kulambu with garlic my favourite would be this Puzhi Kuzhambu, but when I want to make a quick one I choose this Poondu Kulambu. Was just wondering how I missed to publish this recipe here all these days. Can be made very quickly with simple ingredients that are always available in the kitchen.

Rasam is always a comfort food, especially when somebody at home is down with cold. This Kollu Rasam is a healthy and easy rasam variety. It is a wonderful way to include Kollu in our diet. Nobody at home knew that it is included in this rasam, especially Chotu. So good for me, nobody complains 🙂 This Kollu Rasam was so flavourful and unique as Kollu has a very good flavour of its own.

Mochai Murungai Kulambu – Mochai Kuzhambu

February 24, 2016 Kuzhambu/Rasam Varieties  4 comments

Mochai Kuzhambu is a lip-smacking, flavourful kulambu variety. I love mochai, but unfortunately we dont get fresh mochai here. So I always use the dry ones. Mochai by itself gives a wonderful flavour/taste to the kuzhambu. Adding drumstick enhances the taste even more. Somehow, this Mochai Kuzhambu tastes even better the next day!! Serves well with hot steamed rice and appalam. U dont need any other side dish as such.

Tomato Rasam – Thakkali Rasam

January 28, 2016 Kuzhambu/Rasam VarietiesTamil New Year Recipes  12 comments

Rasam is always a breeze to make. This Tomato Rasam is no exception to it. The quickest and the most favourite lunch menu for us would be rasam and potato fry. I normally do not store rasam powder as we prefer to have rasam with freshly ground powder. The freshly ground powder does add magic to the rasam. I just make sure to have some minor changes in my rasam powder every time I make it. This Tomato Rasam is also an easy, flavourful and quick rasam.

After all the festive food, we really wanted a simple and spicy meal. This Puli Milagai is one dish which is spicy, tangy and mildly sweet. It is easy to make and goes well with dal rice/paruppu sadham and even idli/dosa. We usually prefer the consistency to be a bit runny, U can make it thicker too. I served with rice, paruppu and Vazhakkai Puttu.

Tomato Gotsu – Thakkali Gotsu

August 12, 2015 Kuzhambu/Rasam VarietiesSide Dish for Idli/Dosa  11 comments

Tomato Gotsu or Thakkali Gotsu is an excellent side dish for idli/dosa. It is a very easy and quick fix sambar kind of side dish. When u run out of time, this can be made very quickly without much preparation work. Chotu is a big fan of hot, crispy dosa and sambar. I mostly make this tiffin sambar or this tiffin sambar. This Tomato Gotsu is a nice variation to it. Chotu calls this tomato sambar.

This pairs equally well with Ven Pongal too..
