Sweet Potato Tawa Fry

September 25, 2017 Kootu / Poriyal VarietiesPotato Recipes  One comment

Tawa frying veggies has been my long time wish. I have seen many people tawa frying yam. I made this Sweet Potato Tawa Fry last week and it was a super hit. I somehow feel like making some non-veg as it resembles fish fry. Sweet Potatoes were the best to tawa fry as they get cooked very quickly. They were sweet, spicy, crispy.. Yumm!! I guess this will be on repeat mode for a while. πŸ™‚ All u need is to plan 30 mins for the marinating part, otherwise it can be made in just 15 mins.

Stuffed Brinjal Fry – Stuffed Brinjal Curry

March 28, 2017 Dry SabjiKootu / Poriyal Varieties  2 comments

Brinjal is my all time favourite! I can eat brinjal in any form. This Stuffed Brinjal Fry is a simple and flavourful curry to go with rice or roti. The freshly ground masala does the magic here. Usually the stuffing will be made with peanuts and sesame seeds. Since am not a big fan of that combo, have changed the flavours according to our taste buds. If u are like me, try this combo. Have given the usual masala powder option in the tips.

Potato Puttu – Urulaikizhangu Puttu

March 15, 2017 Kootu / Poriyal VarietiesPotato Recipes  6 comments

Puttu is basically peeled and mashed vegetable that is tempered with spices, green chillies and onion. This Potato Puttu is a simple yet flavourful side dish for rice. This goes well with sambar, rasam & most of all with any spicy kuzhambu. Usually I make some kootu variety to pair with it, but this Potato Puttu is also a favourite at home. When we get bored with the usual potato fry with all the masalas, I make this much milder version.

Chow Chow Kootu – Chayote Kootu

February 6, 2017 Kootu / Poriyal Varieties  5 comments

Kootu is a South Indian side dish for rice made with veggies, lentils and coconut. Chow Chow Kootu is a simple kootu variety that goes well with rice. Our family favourite combo is with rice & Poondu Kulambu, though we like to have with sambar as well. It tastes good with chapathi or mixed with plain rice too. I normally prefer adding a handful of moong dal or chana dal while making the kootu. Do check my Podalangai Poricha Kootu which is quite a spicy version of kootu.

Beetroot Fry is a simple yet yummy stir fry which I make quite often. I am always in the look of some sabji to pair with roti and dal, which is our usual lunch menu during week days. This Beetroot Fry has a simple twist which makes it suitable for both roti as well as rice. Though am not a big fan of beetroot, Chotu and hubby love it. U can either grate the beetroot or chop it finely like I have done. I personally dont prefer the grating part, Lazy me!!
