Vazhakkai Chips – Raw Banana Chips

April 3, 2016 Snacks / StartersTamil New Year Recipes  8 comments

Vazhakkai Chips is an easy snack to make at home. I had been wanting to make Vazhakkai Chips since a long time. Unfortunately, the raw banana that we get here has a slight fruity flavour, may be because of the transportation time. But this time, it was really good so immediately made a batch of chips and it really vanished in no time. Not much effort is needed in making this, u just need to peel, slice, fry and season the Vazhakki Chips with salt and chilli powder.

Tomato Rasam – Thakkali Rasam

January 28, 2016 Kuzhambu/Rasam VarietiesTamil New Year Recipes  12 comments

Rasam is always a breeze to make. This Tomato Rasam is no exception to it. The quickest and the most favourite lunch menu for us would be rasam and potato fry. I normally do not store rasam powder as we prefer to have rasam with freshly ground powder. The freshly ground powder does add magic to the rasam. I just make sure to have some minor changes in my rasam powder every time I make it. This Tomato Rasam is also an easy, flavourful and quick rasam.

After all the festive food, we really wanted a simple and spicy meal. This Puli Milagai is one dish which is spicy, tangy and mildly sweet. It is easy to make and goes well with dal rice/paruppu sadham and even idli/dosa. We usually prefer the consistency to be a bit runny, U can make it thicker too. I served with rice, paruppu and Vazhakkai Puttu.

With freshly ground powder this is a flavourful and refreshing rasam. Mostly when I make rasam, the side dish would be potato fry!! It was not different this time too. I served it with Baby Potato Roast (recipe coming soon)

Vazhakkai Putti or Vazhakkai Podimas how ever u call it is a simple and easy stir fry. I usually make a varuval or poriyal with raw banana, for a change I made this Vazhakkai Puttu. We loved this too. This puttu is the most common way to make raw banana. It pairs very well with rice, rasam or sambar.

Mango Thokku – Just the name can make me drool!! No restaurant food can match a combo of curd rice and homemade mango pickle.. Do u agree? I have already posted a mango pickle recipe earlier. Its easy to make too with no fancy ingredients..

March 9, 2015 Pillayar Chathurthi RecipesPongal RecipesSnacks / StartersTamil New Year Recipes  17 comments

Vadai is a popular South Indian snack. This Keerai Vadai is a perfect tea time snack. Its crispy outside and soft inside. Usually in the local tea shops they make it as masal vadai/paruppu vadai (with chana dal). I prefer it with urad dal as Chotu likes the Medhu Vadai best!! So I am more than happy to make this as I can add some spinach leaves to it  Its the best snack to have on a cold/rainy day over a cup of coffee or tea.
