Thandai – this was totally a new term to me until I started blogging. I had no clue what it was. But this recipe would be circulating in the food blogging world during Maha Sivaratri or during Holi. Out of curiosity I found out what it was. I should say it is a very interesting and flavourful drink not only for the festival but also as a perfect summer treat. After a lot of googling, finally adapted this recipe from Tarla Dalal’s recipe. Its my turn to post Thandai recipe during Sivaratri now

January 17, 2017 Holi RecipesPaneer DishesSnacks / Starters  8 comments

Paneer65_1126

Paneer 65 is a very popular starter in any Indian restaurant menu. It is a spicy pakoda kind of snack that can be had with coffee/tea or as a starter. Paneer is an universal favourite especially for vegetarians. Chotu just loves paneer in any form. I made this Paneer 65 during the holidays and he could not resist to pick one while I was clicking the pics. U can see the result below :) The only planning that u need to do is to marinate the paneer. Once that is done it is only a 15 min process.

LemonRice_0535

Lemon Rice is a very common and popular South Indian rice variety. It is an easy and quick lunch box recipe. All u need is rice, lemon juice and tempering. I pretty much told the recipe here. Actually this is not a fancy recipe to be published here, but there are many beginners/bachelors who really need this. My favourite among these rice varieties is Puliyotharai especially with home made Pulikaichal. This Lemon Rice is good to go as is or divine with any potato sabji & papad/crisps.

Varagu Sakkarai Pongal – Millet Sweet Pongal

VaraguSakkaraiPongal_0773

I have always wanted to try millet sakkarai pongal. The procedure to make this Varagu Sakkarai Pongal is very similar to the normal Sakkarai Pongal made with rice. This is perfect to make for Pongal festival. Actually to be honest, we did not find any difference in the taste, in the sense it tasted as good as the normal Sakkarai Pongal. When there is no compromise in taste, why not choose a much healthier option?!?  Do check my Aval Sakkarai Pongal as well.. Varagu is known as Kodo Millet in english.

Kalakand__0599

Wishing u all a very happy new year!! I always like to begin the new year on a sweet note. This Kalakand is an easy-peasy sweet that can be made in just 15 mins with very simple ingredients. In fact just 2 main ingredients. The traditional method to make Kalakand is quite a long process, but this a quick and shortcut method with condensed milk. I made this for a small get-together at home and it was a super hit. I adapted this recipe from nestle channel and tweaked it a bit. Can the 1st post of the year be without a video?!? Definitely not!! :)

Ven Pongal is always a favourite at home. It is a very easy to make comfort breakfast food. It is truly divine when served hot with a dollop of ghee. Ven Pongal, Vadai, Sambar & Coconut Chutney.. Gosh!! It is an unbeatable South Indian combo!!  We love both the tiffin sambars with this pongal. I usually do the tempering in the beginning itself, so that the work would be done in one shot. U can temper finally too. Post updated with video :)

Adhirasam_0584

Yayyyyy!! Finally made it! Yes!! Adhirasam was a long time due post. I tried making it for last Diwali and it was a super flop :( Did not dare to try it again until this year’s Diwali. It was a flop again!! Lazy me, I tried making it with store bought rice flour. Though I got the jaggery syrup consistency right both the times, it was a super flop!! Finally I made it with homemade rice flour and it was a super hit!! In my opinion, traditional recipes should be made the traditional way – No shorcuts!! :) So pls don’t get disappointed if it doesnt work. Just try again!! Now I can tell all the Do’s & Dont’s to make Adhirasam successfully..

I gained courage to make it as a ...
