October 8, 2019 Rice Varieties  No comments

Spinach Biryani is an easy and nutritious one pot meal, perfect for lunch boxes. This Spinach Biryani happened on the day I had nothing in the fridge except for spinach. We were in no mood for Spinach Kootu, rice etc etc. All we wanted was Biryani πŸ™‚ Trust me, this tasted totally yumm! We loved the aroma that filled the house and while opening the cooker. It was just wow! I was actually wondering if I should grind the spinach or use it as is. Ended up with the second choice. Shall update here when I try the other here.

Vazhaipoo Paruppu Usili – Vazhaipoo Usili

September 10, 2019 Kootu / Poriyal Varieties  No comments

Vazhaipoo Paruppu Usili is a traditional recipe. Paruppu Usili is nothing but a blend of lentils and spices, which is then mixed with vazhaipoo or other veggies. Paruppu Usili can be made with beans, cluster beans too. It is actually a handy recipe to increase the quantity of poriyal when u end up buying a little less of the veggie. It tastes awesome with Mor Kuzhambu. Mor Kuzhambu & Beans Usili is the normal “Hit” combo at home. This was good too. πŸ™‚Β  Cleaning Vazhaipoo is a cumbersome task, but it is worth its health benefits. Check HERE for the cleaning process with video.

Lobia Masala – Lobia Masala Curry

April 29, 2019 Dals/Gravies  No comments

Lobia is nothing but black eyed peas. Lobia Masala is a delicious gravy recipe perfect to go with roti and rice. This requires some planning time to soak the black eyed peas. But need not be soaked overnight like Rajma or Chana. Other than that this can be made very quickly. There are 2 ways of doing this. One way is by cooking the lobia first and then adding it to onion-tomato base and the second way is making the onion-tomato base, adding the soaked lobia to it and pressure cooking it. I have followed the 2nd method. Check my Rajma Masala gravy if u want to follow the 1st method.
